Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers about our pilgrimages, destinations, travel arrangements, and what to expect on your spiritual journey.
How do I register and what is the payment schedule?
You may register online or by phone. A deposit of $500 per person reserves your place. A second payment follows, and the balance is due 105 days before departure. The exact amounts and dates for your pilgrimage are shown at registration and on your invoice. Prices are based on payment by eCheck or ACH bank transfer; payments by credit or debit card carry a processing surcharge of 3.5% (3.9% for American Express).
You are welcome to travel on your own. If you register without a roommate, or prefer a room to yourself, a single supplement applies to guarantee private accommodation. The amount is shown for each pilgrimage. Where possible we will try to match roommates, but we cannot guarantee one.
Our pilgrimages are rooted in the Catholic faith, and daily Mass is a central part of the journey. But all are welcome — spouses, family, and friends of any faith or none — and there is no obligation to attend every Mass. Come as you are.
Yes. International travel requires a passport valid for at least six months beyond your return date. A passport card is not sufficient. The name on your booking must match your passport exactly, as name corrections can incur airline fees. Please submit your passport information no later than 105 days before departure. We recommend carrying a copy separately from your passport and leaving one with family at home.
Please indicate any dietary needs or allergies when you register, and we will notify the hotels and your tour guide. We will do our best to accommodate them. Please understand that we cannot guarantee accommodation of all allergies or restrictions, particularly at some overseas venues where options may be limited.
We strongly recommend that every pilgrim protect their investment with a travel protection plan, and that it be purchased in close conjunction with your deposit. A good plan covers trip cancellation and interruption, medical expenses, emergency evacuation, and baggage. Premiums are non-refundable and are separate from the tour price. 316 Journeys is not able to answer technical questions about coverage or exclusions — those should be directed to the insurer. If you choose to travel without adequate coverage, we cannot be responsible for losses a plan would otherwise have covered.
All of our prices include economy-class airfare. You may request an upgrade to a higher class of service and will be quoted the cost. An upgraded ticket must be paid in full at the time you accept it, and upgraded or deviated passengers will generally not travel with the group.
Can I depart from my own city?
Our package prices are based on group air from a designated gateway. If you prefer to depart from another city, arrive early, or extend your stay, you may request a deviation. Deviations are quoted individually, carry an assessment fee, and mean you will travel on separate flights from the group and arrange your own transfers.
Yes. You may make your own air arrangements and purchase only the ground portion of the pilgrimage. Please contact us for details. Land-only pilgrims who do not arrive with the group are responsible for their own airport transfers.
Prepaid gratuities for hotel staff — porters, dining, and housekeeping — are included. Gratuities for your driver and tour guide are not included and are collected toward the end of the tour. The suggested amounts are $3.00 per person per day for the driver and $6.00 per person per day for the tour guide.
316 Journeys does not set vaccination requirements. However, the airlines and the countries you visit may, and these requirements change. Please consult your physician and check the current guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (cdc.gov) and the U.S. Department of State (travel.state.gov) for the countries on your itinerary.
A detailed packing suggestion accompanies your final documents. In general, pack light, bring comfortable walking shoes, and carry a money belt for your passport and cash. Much of Europe and other destinations use 220-volt current rather than the 110 volts used in the United States, so you will need a plug adapter and, for some devices, a voltage converter.
Pilgrimage involves a good deal of walking, often on uneven ground, stairs, and cobblestones, and some sites are not accessible to those needing wheelchairs or other mobility assistance. Please be sure you are able to walk and travel comfortably with the group. Travelers requiring assistance must be accompanied by a companion who takes responsibility for their needs.
If you must cancel, please contact our office immediately and submit your cancellation in writing; it takes effect when we receive it. Cancellation penalties follow the schedule set out in our Terms & Conditions and depend on how close to departure you cancel. If you purchased travel protection, you would then file a claim with the insurer.
